The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy, Natangue Ithete, says the government is doing everything in its power to apprehend the people who stole diamonds worth more than N$300 million from NAMDIA.
He made this statement after McHenry Venaani, leader of the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM), questioned the minister about the progress of the investigations.
Venaani expressed concern over the lack of transparency and the silence surrounding the case, stating that the government has been too quiet.
He noted that the state is not updating citizens about one of the biggest heists of corruption in the country.
Venaani also asked the minister whether the government simply wants citizens to forget about the stolen diamonds.
In response, Ithete emphasised that it is not a good idea to disclose everything about the investigation to the public, as this might inform the suspects and compromise the case.
He stressed that at the appropriate time, he will deliver a ministerial statement to inform the nation about the progress made in the case.
Ithete highlighted the government’s determination to solve the case and to continue updating the public without compromising the investigation.
