The Councillor of the Khomasdal Constituency has reminded small and medium enterprises of the role they play in their communities and the country as catalysts of local development.
Samuel Angolo said this at the handover of equipment and material worth N$250,000 to 21 SME beneficiaries from the Khomasdal Constituency in Windhoek today.
He emphasised that SMEs are the backbone of any thriving economy, as they are the engines of job creation, innovation and poverty reduction, unlocking opportunities for youth, women and disadvantaged communities.
It is for this reason Councillor Angolo stressed that the council will continue to empower entrepreneurs through sustainable economic opportunities.
He therefore called on the beneficiaries to ensure that they return the investment on this equipment.
Of the 21 beneficiaries, four are men and 17 are women.
Among the beneficiaries was Justina Namhadi, who has been in the beauty industry since 2020, and Rauna Kapapu, who has been in the catering business for seven years.
The two thanked the council on behalf of the beneficiaries for the support, saying it will go a long way in ensuring that they have a stable source of income for years to come.
The equipment and material are part of the |Khomas Regional Council’s Income Generating Activities Programme.
