As Namibia celebrated its liberation icon Dr. Sam Nujoma's birthday on 12 May, people whose lives he touched many years ago keep resurfacing, sharing remarkable moments they once shared with him.

In Zambia, Professor Maseka Kakoma, now a senior lecturer at Zambia's Copperbelt University, recounted how in the 60s his father hosted the late Founding President together with many others.

He was at a primary school named Sihole, more than a thousand kilometres from Zambia's capital, Lusaka, on the border with Angola, where his father worked as a headmaster.

Here, Dr. Nujoma with his delegation arrived in the middle of the night, escaping from some skirmish ordeal in Angola.

Prof. Maseka, now in his late 70s, still vividly remembers some of the veterans who were accompanying Dr. Sam Nujoma at that time.

In celebrating his life, the Maseka still enjoy the songs and languages he briefly learnt from the SWAPO stint.
