The Namibian Police are searching for seven Namibian cattle owners and two Angolan cattle herders who crossed into Angola on 11 May 2025.
According to Kavango East crime investigations coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu, the men entered Angola in pursuit of cattle that had been stolen on 10 May.
It is alleged that a cattle herder was grazing livestock at Shayiwe village in the Mukwe constituency when he was confronted by five suspects. Two of the suspects were reportedly armed with firearms, while another carried a traditional axe.
Kanyetu stated that the suspects managed to steal 87 head of cattle and forced the herder to accompany them as they drove the cattle into Angola. The estimated value of the stolen livestock is N$783,000.
The cattle herder managed to return to the cattle post in Namibia, where he is employed, after he was allegedly released by the suspects on 11 May. He then alerted the cattle owners, who decided to cross into Angola in pursuit of their stolen livestock.
Police say the cattle have not been recovered, and the suspects, believed to be Angolan nationals, remain unidentified at this stage.
A case of stock theft has been reported at the Divundu police station, and investigations are ongoing.
