The management of the Katima Mulilo Youth Resource Centre is unhappy about the absence of a youth hostel, despite the provision of a hostel, a hall, and a gym having been in the plans for the last 15 years.

The acting head of the centre, Morrister Mashangu, said the centre provides various services for the youth, including a functioning Namibia Planned Parenthood Association (NAPPA) clinic, training on etiquette and social skills, and a tailoring programme that runs for six months.

However, the lack of a youth hostel is disadvantaging the potential of all the youth within the region from benefitting.

"Currently, the young people who are enrolled in the computer and tailoring are 19 because we are limited because of the youth hostel; if we could have the youth hostel, we could even cater to young people who are at Singalamwe, Nakabololelwa; they could be here. They are eager to be in this soft skill training, but we cannot. This is really a challenge; that's why we are appealing to the central government. Can they bring the services closer to the young people at the youth hostel here?"

She went on to say that this inhibits the region's ability to compete on an international level in sports.

The Regional Youth Coordinator, Jennifer Simasiku, further encouraged the youth to be active in sports.
