The Okahandja Business Expo is facing serious allegations that town administrators are ignoring procurement laws and creating a hostile environment for local exhibitors.
One exhibitor spoke to Nbc News, claiming that the municipality is renting tents at exorbitant prices from suppliers in the north.
Hans Namutewa further alleged that 90% of the security personnel, including those for the stage, were hired from outside Okahandja, putting local unemployed youth at a disadvantage.
Maggy Sheya, the marketing executive at the Okahandja municipality and head of the expo, stated that she is not authorized to speak to the media but will consult with the public relations officer and the town's CEO.
Okahandja Mayor Beatrice Kotungondo clarified that the council does not handle procurement matters, as those responsibilities lie with the administrators.
The expo began on Tuesday and will conclude today.
