The remains of former President Edgar Lungu will be repatriated from South Africa to Zambia on Wednesday, June 10.

Zambia's Secretary to Cabinet announced that President Hakainde Hichilema has declared a 7-day mourning period in honour of his predecessor.

During the announcement, the Secretary did not disclose the burial date.

However, with the body expected to arrive on Wednesday and the mourning period concluding on Saturday, it is anticipated that the funeral will occur later this week.

Details regarding the cause of his death remain unclear, as the government is still in discussions with the family before making further announcements.

Members of the Patriotic Front, the party led by the late President, have been mourning his passing in their preferred locations, separate from the official government-designated area at Belvedere Lodge, where high-level dignitaries are typically honoured.
