
Deputy Minister of Urban and Rural Development, Evelyn !Nawases-Taeyele, has announced government support for restoring Uis to its former prominence.
Speaking at the Uis Investment Conference in Swakopmund, Taeyele said the Ministry backs the Erongo Regional Council’s request, pending a final report on urgent matters before official approval is granted.
She reaffirmed the government's commitment to revitalising Uis, which was established in 1958 and is known for its tin mining industry.
Taeyele noted that Uis is experiencing rapid economic change, driven by growth in mining, tourism, and infrastructure, positioning it as a potential economic hub in the Daures Constituency.
She highlighted Uis’s strategic location, natural resources, and cultural heritage as key investment opportunities.
According to the 2023 Housing and Population Census, Uis has over 14,000 residents.
