Namibia and Egypt have reaffirmed their shared commitment to African unity, development, and human-centred cooperation during the celebration of Egypt's 73rd anniversary of independence at a diplomatic reception in Windhoek.
Egypt's Ambassador to Namibia, Wael Batea, commended Namibia for its support of the Palestinian people and praised the country's consistent position in advocating for the right to self-determination and the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state.
The ambassador also congratulated Namibia on the successful conclusion of its elections and the peaceful transition of leadership to President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, hailing Namibia as a beacon of democracy and political stability on the African continent.
"We remain confident in the new administration's vision for socioeconomic transformation and inclusive growth. Namibia continues to stand as a pillar of democratic resilience in Africa."
Cairo's political and military support during Namibia's liberation struggle was a cornerstone of a bond grounded in shared values of self-determination and sovereignty, he said.
Batea said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1990, Egypt has trained more than 1,000 Namibian professionals through technical cooperation programs.
Deputy Minister of International Relations and Trade Jennely Matundu said there is mutual respect and deep friendship between the two countries.
"Namibia is renowned for its strong and amicable relations with Egypt. Our bond is based on shared values, including self-determination, sovereignty, and African solidarity."
She paid tribute to Egypt's support during Namibia's liberation struggle, saying their support for African liberation movements demonstrates the Arab nation's lasting dedication to unity.
Matundu further acknowledged Egypt's continued investment in Namibia's human and institutional development.
"These initiatives do not only benefit Namibia but contribute meaningfully to Africa's broader developmental agenda, strengthening regional stability and investing in collective human development."
The event was attended by senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, and Egyptian nationals residing in Namibia.
