India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has been honoured with the Order of the Most Ancient Welwitschia Mirabilis Award.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah conferred the award on Prime Minister Modi during the ceremony at State House.

He is the first Indian leader to be honoured with Namibia's highest national accolade, which he dedicated to the enduring ties between the two countries.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah equally paid tribute to the bond between the nations, forged during both struggles for independence and subsequently, nation-building.

"Today's luncheon is not only a celebration of shared achievements but also a reaffirmation of our commitment to deepen and diversify our partnership in the years ahead. I wish to reiterate Namibia's readiness to work closely with India to build an inclusive, digitally connected, and economically empowered future for our people."

The state visit to Namibia marks the end of Prime Minister Modi's five-nation tour, which was aimed at solidifying ties.
