The newly formed Parliamentary Committee on Budget and Finance is conducting a two-week workshop in Swakopmund, focusing on strengthening public financial oversight across Namibia.

Established in April of this year, the Committee on Budget and Finance is one of the twelve standing committees of the National Assembly. 

The Committee is tasked with examining government revenue and expenditure to ensure the national budget reflects the priorities of all Namibians.

MP and Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Budget and Finance, Helaria Mukapuli, explained the importance of the committee.

"Our mandate is very clear: to ensure robust oversight of budgetary policies, scrutinise state revenue and expenditure, and engage stakeholders to align financial decisions with the needs of our nation."

With the Mid-Term Budget Review scheduled for October, the workshop serves as a critical platform for government, civil society, the private sector, and local communities to address challenges and reinforce transparency in public fund management.

Florian Donatus, the Chairperson of the Erongo Regional Council, spoke on behalf of the Governor of the Erongo Region Nathalia |Goagoses.

"I urge all invited participants to engage actively, share insights, and leave with actionable outcomes that will benefit all Namibians. Together we can ensure that our budget processes are transparent, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of every citizen."

The agenda features plenary talks, panel discussions, and group sessions. Delegates are expected to produce clear, actionable recommendations that will support the Committee in fulfilling its constitutional duty, ensuring that public finances are used effectively and for the greater good of all citizens.
