The Elenga Enene of Uukwambi Traditional Authority, Ndilimani Iipumbu and his council have called on the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) to provide airtime, especially on its radio platforms.
This, he said, will allow them to more effectively advocate and communicate issues pertaining to culture and customary law.
Elenga Enene Iipumbu said the lack of media platforms to share their message threatens the existence, perseverance, and maintenance of culture.
He addressed a stakeholder engagement with NBC's management at Onamega in the Omusati Region.
The NBC delegation also made a turn at the Police Regional Headquarters at Omuthiya, where the police regional chief lauded the public broadcaster for providing the public and police with a platform, especially where urgent information is shared, such as warnings about crime incidents and suspects being sought.
Commissioner Ndeshipanda Iifo singled out Kati FM as particularly useful when she has needed information disseminated promptly.
The regional commander said the region welcomes a collaborative partnership with the NBC to enhance crime prevention within its area of jurisdiction.
NBC's Chief of News and Programming, Menesia Muinjo, said the corporation is preparing to align its programming with President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah's seven key priority areas, among others.
The NBC team, led by Muinjo, wrapped up its weeklong stakeholder engagements, which included stopovers at the Oshana, Omusati, Ohangwena, and Oshikoto regions.
