The Mayeyi community and other tribes in the Zambezi Region have gathered at Sangwali, the Mayeyi headquarters, to celebrate their annual cultural festival.

The festival has made history in the region because, for the first time, Mafwe chief Litunga George Simasiku Mamili VII and Mashi chief Fumu Joseph Tembwe Mayuni are in attendance, along with the senior councillor of the Masubia chief, Ngambela Albius Milinga Kamwi.

The Prime Minister, Dr. Elijah Ngurare, is the guest of honour at the event.

The festival is celebrated under the theme, "Promoting Culture for National Resource Benefits."

The chairperson of the Mayeyi Advisory Committee, Mazila Mafwila, says the 32nd cultural festival is significant because the community wants to learn about government assistance for rural areas, particularly as natural resources have started benefiting the community.

Mafwila noted that unity in diversity is evident in the region, especially as traditional leaders come together to celebrate their culture, norms, and values.
