Urban and Rural Development Minister James Sankwasa said members of the Katima Mulilo town council management were given ample time to respond to allegations of mismanagement made against them. The allegations include their refusal to comply with a directive to reverse a transaction in which the council exchanged land for vehicles and quad bikes before the decision to dissolve the council management was formally carried out by the minister.
Sankwasa announced his intention to appoint an administrator to oversee council matters at a gathering with Katima Mulilo residents.
The gathering, where the minister was received with loud applause, followed a meeting with the former members of the council management on Wednesday, during which the minister formally handed them their letters of dismissal.
