The Governor of ||Kharas, Dawid Gertze, has urged the inhabitants to use the region's profile report as a tool for making informed decisions and investment planning.
He made the call while launching the region's profile, released by the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA) at Keetmanshoop.
The regional report is an expansion of the 2023 Housing and Population Census main report that was released in October of last year.
It aims to provide statistics up to constituency level and offers a clear picture of the demographic, social, and economic realities of the region.
The region report shows the region's population has increased by 41.9% between 2011 and 2023.
Of the 109,892 residents, 68,707 reside in urban areas and 41,186 in rural areas.
The Keetmanshoop Urban Constituency had the highest population of 27,862 in 2023, while the Keetmanshoop Rural Constituency had the lowest of 8,744.
"||Kharas region's leadership remains committed, and I believe we remain committed, to turning statistics into strategies and these strategies into sustainable development programmes for our communities. And we further pledge our continuous support towards future data collection initiatives, knowing that accurate and timely data strengthens our decisions and drives progress," said Governor Gertze.
The governor further reminded candidates for the upcoming Regional Councils and Local Authorities to take the data into account and reflect it in their election campaign messages.
The regional profile report also indicates that young people dominated the region's population, accounting for 22.1%.
The number of households also increased by 36.9% between 2011 and 2023.
