The Namibia Annual Sport Awards are back, and this year, they're not just about honoring athletes. The Namibia Sport Commission is adding a series of coaching clinics to the schedule, aiming to improve the skills and knowledge of coaches nationwide.
"It's not going to be a once-off event," said Freddy Mwiya, Chief Administrator of the Namibia Sport Commission. "We are planning to have what we call coaching clinics to sensitize people about sports development. It's going to become bigger and better this year, seeing as it's the 21st anniversary of the awards and we're also combining the Wall of Fame."
With the awards set for November 22, 2025, the pressure is on the Namibia Sport Commission to finalize preparations.
Mwiya explained that the event will take place in Oshana, specifically in Ongwediva. A Local Organizing Committee (LOC) has been established, including staff from the Namibia Sport Commission, the Ministry of Sport, the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, and partners like NBC.
"We've already started with various meetings, which I'm quite very much impressed with," Mwiya stated. He added that they have engaged many corporate partners, especially local companies.
The LOC will conduct a site visit to Ongwediva on September 22. They also plan to visit all town councils in the northern regions to meet with CEOs and raise awareness about the upcoming event.
