MTC has committed an investment of N$4.5 million in the Content Creator Awards over the next three years.
The announcement was made during the nomination event held at the National Theatre of Namibia.
The mobile telecommunication company recognises the importance of nurturing local talent in the digital space.
"Namibians want to see their culture, communities, and experiences reflected in the content that they consume, because these homegrown narratives will build deeper connections. We also want to see more partnerships between Namibian brands and content creators. Importantly, we want to see corporate Namibia take content creators seriously. Creating content is more than just a passion; it is a career that most aspire to make a full-time business," said MTC Chief of Brand, Marketing, and Communications Tim Ekandjo.
The categories range from fashion and lifestyle, fitness, tradition and culture, and tourism to film and television producers.
Carlos Gurirab is one of the organisers for the MTC Content Creator Awards. He explained that "because our ultimate goal with these awards, as we go on every year, is to turn content creation into an industry that we can call a career and not have a career on the side and content creation on the side. We want an opportunity to be a creator for you guys as we go on."
This year's event points out the potential for content creation to become a viable career path, celebrating Namibian creatives who bring unique stories to life.
The nominated creators will be taken through a workshop on content creation.
Voting starts on Friday, and the award ceremony will be held on the 29th of November.
