The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation's Director General, Stanley Similo, commended the late President Geingob for his influence on media freedom during his visit to Casa Rosalia.

Similo, accompanied by his wife Alna, who is the current Principal of Suiderhof Primary School, visited the family of the late President Geingob to express their condolences and offer their support during this difficult time.

After signing the Book of Condolence, the nbc Director General stated that the late President made a significant impact on media freedom.

Namibia seeks to improve press freedom ranking

Namibia is aiming to improve on its top 30 freedom of the media world rankings by Reporters Without Borders.

The Ministry of Information, Communication, and Technology's Executive Director, Dr. Audrin Mathe, said this at a special award ceremony of the International Festival for Freedom of Expression and the Press (FILEP) in the capital of Burkina Faso, where Namibia was crowned Champion of Press Freedom in Africa.

Namibia had been occupying the top spot consistently over the years and until 2021 before being toppled by the Seychelles last year.

Broadcasters urged to maintain credibility

The Southern African Broadcasting Association President Stanley Similo has emphasised the significance of credibility among media in a world where misinformation is easily accessible, particularly in the realm of broadcasting.

Similo addressed the just concluded SABA 30th Annual General Meeting and 67th Board Meeting in Zanzibar, Tanzania.

nbc Director General Stanley Similo was re-elected President of SABA for another two years.

He emphasised the need for broadcasters to maintain credibility.

Police, Media trained to coexist

The Namibian Police, in conjunction with UNESCO, concluded a training of trainers workshop titled 'Project on Training Security Forces in Promoting Freedom of Expression and the Safety of Journalists'.

Over 54 participants were trained at the Israel Patrick Iyambo Police College in the capital.

Among the training's main aims were to improve the working relationship between media and law enforcement agencies and reinforce citizen trust in the police force.

Namibia is ranked number two on the World Press Freedom Index of Africa.

The US Ambassador during his first engagement with local media emphasized the significant role media plays in strengthening a democratic system.

Randy Berry stated that free and independent media is vital in a democracy, which he says, is evident in both the US and Namibia.

Namibian media visits Uranium mine Dalur

There are twenty-eight mines around the world using In-Situ Leaching recovery for Uranium.

According to the International Atomic Energy Agency, In-Situ Leaching (ISL) has been proven around the world to be the most environmentally friendly method in the recovery of Uranium. The information was shared with representatives of the Namibian media who have been invited to Russia by the Russian State-owned nuclear power enterprise Rosatom.

Rosatom, took Namibian media to one of its Uranium mines Dalur, the first company in Russia that mines Uranium using the ISL method.
