The 12th edition of the annual Taute Cup Sports Tournament concluded over the weekend, impressing players, supporters, and invited guests with its excellent management and display of sportsmanship.

Among those applauding the event was NFA President Robert Shimooshili, who envisions more sporting activities taking place at this very stadium in the future.

The tournament was the highlight of the weekend, attracting over 30 teams from across the country.

It has become the talk of the town thanks to the impressive new stadium and its high-standard facilities, which made players and supporters feel safe and welcome as they competed for the cup.

Although further upgrades are still underway, the quality of the sports stadium has set a precedent as one of the best-built facilities in the village of Onamla, within the Okatana Constituency.

After the final match on Sunday afternoon, NBC Sport caught up with NFA President Robert Shimooshili, who expressed his excitement over the tournament's smooth conclusion and the teams' performances.

"We are happy that the competition came to a successful end with no violence reported. From our side, as football people, we appreciate that. We also saw a very serious competition in terms of top-tier league players and lower-league players; they are doing a good job by competing to the best of their ability."

Shimooshili also thanked the Taute Cup Committee for allowing a large number of SMEs to participate and sell their products. He promised that more sporting codes will be included in future editions of the tournament.

"The economy has grown in the area in terms of business participation from local entrepreneurs, to small, medium, and large businesses, and that's what we want to do. Especially from the sport fraternity, football in particular, we also have to contribute to economic growth so that we fight against poverty and hunger together with our government. The unity is also high, and it has been prevailing for the past three days we have been at this center."

"We are looking into boxing, athletics, and horse racing; those are the three sports codes in the pipeline."

Onamungudo Lions FC were crowned champions after defeating Nelundu United with a commanding 4-1 scoreline in this year's 12th edition of the Taute Cup Annual Sport Tournament.
