President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has called for the elimination of the threat of nuclear war as Namibia seeks membership in the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).
The NSG works to ensure that nuclear trade remains peaceful.
Speaking at the High-Level Meeting of the UN General Assembly to commemorate and promote the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons, Nandi-Ndaitwah urged member states to fully support all nuclear disarmament treaties.
She added that the peaceful use of atomic energy must be equally promoted.
Namibia is among the world’s top three producers of uranium, accounting for about 11% of global output.
