Namibia says it is cautiously optimistic over recent developments in the Israel-Hamas war.

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah reacted to the latest developments during the second session of the Namibia-Botswana Bi-National Commission (BNC) in Windhoek.

She said that the meeting came as Palestinians, particularly in Gaza, continued to endure prolonged suffering and shortages of basic supplies.

The Head of State recalled Namibia's own history of genocide and apartheid colonialism, emphasising the nation's belief in international solidarity and human dignity.

Since Friday, Israeli and Hamas leaders have begun implementing a ceasefire brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump, allowing thousands of Palestinians to return to the Gaza Strip.

Under the plan, Hamas is to release 48 Israeli hostages within 72 hours, while Israeli forces are to withdraw and permit full access to humanitarian aid.

"We are cautiously optimistic about the latest developments. Now is the moment to move the call for a two-state solution in accordance with various UN resolutions forward," she said.
