Students from various institutions around Katima Mulilo took part in a clean-up campaign in the town on Friday.

The initiative took place under the theme "my presence, my responsibility", symbolising the students' involvement in the community and their accountability as both scholars and citizens in contributing to the health and wellbeing of the community.

SRC President of UNAM Katima Mulilo campus Mungomba Simazina explained.

"As students, it is our responsibility to contribute to the betterment of our community. We must refrain from individualistic thinking. Let us think about our community. This community depends on us; it depends on our action, the little effort that you can make to pick up a single paper in town can really make a difference."

The Governor of Zambezi Region, Dorothy Kabula commended the students' initiative, noting that it reflects the values of patriotism and service in a speech read on her behalf.

Regional Councilor of the Kabbe South Raymond Sezuni also shared his sentiments.

"This campaign is more than just picking up litter; it is about taking responsibility for our shared space and protecting our environment and building a culture of care and respect for the place we call home. A clean town is a healthy town. And a healthy town means a better future, not just for us but for generations to come."
