The mother of the two young siblings who died in a fire recently in Swakopmund's DRC informal settlement has denied allegations that she was absent from home at the time of the tragic incident.

This is in response to media reports that Zelda ǂGoses was not at the fire scene and only arrived after the flames were out.

"I don't know why people on social media are saying I was not home and that my daughter was helped by my neighbour. It is not true; I was here with my daughters. We were sleeping."

She further added that the police officers and fire brigade found her standing outside her burning shack when they arrived.

"The police and the fire brigade all came while I was standing there. I don't know what people are talking and writing about; the guy who stayed next door also woke up late."

According to ǂGoses, she was fast asleep in bed when she was woken up by the intense heat.

She added that everything happened so fast, and she was unable to save her two daughters, Star and Grace, and that is something she will always carry with her.

The family is appealing to the nation for financial assistance to bury the two children.
