Water shortages in the Omundaungilo Consitituency is said to have affected schools, clinics and other government institutions.

This came to light during a visit by the Governor, Kadiva Hamutumwa to the consitiuency as part of her familiarization tour

The Omundaungilo Councillor Festus Iikanda confirmed the extensive impact of the water shortage, with Okahenge Combined School being one of the most affected.

Iikanda stressed, "Learners are now  busy writing examination and they have to fetch water afar. When they come back they are tired.

There is need for urgent intervention to make water available during exams."

He said it also takes long to get water from the Department of Rural Water Supply because of the long list of applicants.

The only nearby borehole, shared by the community and powered by solar energy, has been running low leading to long queues.

"When it comes to water pipe lines, we have small villages connected to pipelines, but its no long running since March this year. Due to low pressure  sysyem, there is no water as we speak in many villages. Our dream is for the pipeline, Omundangilo- Omutse gonime to be implemented so that our people can extend water to their houses."

Governor Hamutumwa emphasised the need to build more water infrastructure in the region.

"When that water supply project comes, we will all relly behind the project, Omundaungilo - Omutsegonime, because it also helping us to connect oshikoto region, where you do know that there is water crisis within a particular part of the country. Omundaungilo become the heartbeat of water supply and I think the priority for me is to make sure that this project goes through."
