The Director General of the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), Stanley Similo, received the Broadcast Media Evergreen Special Recognition Award in honour of his outstanding leadership and remarkable contribution to the Southern African Broadcasting Association (SABA).

The Broadcast Media Awards were held on 29 October in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, and celebrated excellence and innovation across the regional broadcasting industry.

As President of SABA, Similo has been instrumental in advancing regional broadcasting collaboration and innovation. Among his notable achievements are the introduction of “Eye of SADC”, a 26-minute television news programme, and “SADC 360”, a regional radio current affairs show that enhances cross-border information sharing.

In addition, Similo has spearheaded capacity-building initiatives across the region and coordinated training programs for journalists in various fields, including the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in media and broadcasting.

The award was presented to Similo by Dr. Omphile Marupi, Zimbabwe's Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services.
