The Masokotwani Combined School in the Zambezi Region has received a donation of forty computers from B2Gold Namibia.
Valued at N$250,000, the contribution has been welcomed by both learners and staff, marking it as the first school in rural Zambezi to possess such equipment.
The Manager for Corporate Social Investment at B2Gold, Ignasius |Awaseb, emphasised that the ICT space is forever changing; therefore, it is important to have learners equipped with the necessary equipment and technologies.
"Our organisation's desire is that you will be equipped with the necessary skills to cooperate optimally and efficiently and as qualified people in this space."
The school computer lab that was constructed through the Chinese aid has never had computers.
Zambezi Education Deputy Director, Nora Munembo, noted the donation symbolises opportunity for empowerment and hope.
"This donation will enhance teaching and learning, improve research and digital literacy and prepare the learners for the demands of the modern world."
The Minister of Urban and Rural Development, James Sankwasa, who played a part in facilitating the donation, asked that the equipment be well taken care of.
"The school will install WiFi so that you can research the world, but don't come and fight the computer; don't come and fight the computer. You must also leave it very clean; you found it clean. You must not be touching it with your fingers after you touch food; it must remain clean, because it's not for you; it's for you and those that are coming."
Both government officials appealed for more companies to follow in the footsteps of B2Gold to create conducive learning and teaching spaces.
