As voters in the Omuthiya Constituency of the Oshikoto Region prepare to cast their ballots on 26 November in the Regional Councils and Local Authorities Elections, many say they have high expectations and do not want their votes to be in vain.

Residents are calling for improved service delivery, particularly in areas that have seen slow or inconsistent development over the years.

One of the top priorities raised is the need for better road infrastructure.

Voters say the Omuthiya Town Council should upgrade more roads to bitumen or low-volume seal standards, especially in residential areas, to reduce dust and make travel safer and smoother.

They also expressed concern over the poor condition of street lights, both in town and at the Kaniita location.

Many lights are allegedly nonfunctional, leaving areas in darkness at night and undermining safety, and they are calling for regular maintenance to restore lighting services.

Young voters are heading to the polls, hoping for a leadership that will prioritise job creation, youth empowerment, and the establishment of recreational facilities and children's playgrounds.

Others are calling for the construction of institutions of higher learning within Omuthiya, as the absence of such institutions forces students to further their studies outside the constituency, an expense many families struggle to afford.

Residents also want more sports facilities, including additional soccer fields to accommodate the growing number of football clubs in the constituency.
