The Office of the Kavango West Governor donated 100 fruit trees to residents of Nkurenkuru Constituency as part of efforts to keep Kavango West green and food self-sustained.
The Regional Fruit Tree Planting Campaign Engagement, Creative Industries Awareness, and Database Registration were launched on November 11, 2025, in the Ncamagoro constituency.
Nkurenkuru is the sixth constituency to benefit since the campaign was launched.
The fruit tree campaign, under the theme "Tapeka, Lima Tulye", aims to strengthen food security in the region.
Personal Assistant to the Kavango West Governor, Victoria Njebela, said, "You can produce more trees from that one tree, so another business can grow for you; it's income for you and your family, and then you are self-reliant, and you don't just depend on the next person to give you something."
Kavango West Governor Verna Sinimbo revealed that the campaign is laying a foundation for a future where households are more food secure, children grow up healthier, and communities depend more on what they can produce for themselves.
"We can also do it; we can produce and feed Namibia. We can produce food and feed our republic. I want people of Kavango West to stand up and join me in this campaign, where we encourage everybody to see the importance of growing our own food. To see the importance of cultivating and producing our own food. I'm waiting to see. I will be the happiest governor when I start to see some of you producing fruit from these trees and start selling."
The Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism's Senior Forester of Kavango West, Erasmus Ambuga, also educated the community members in attendance on the importance of tree planting and how to care for plants.
