Polling stations opened bright and early at Impalila Island in the Kabbe South Constituency, as officials prepared to receive voters participating in the Regional Councils and Local Authorities election.

The presiding officer for Namonyi Polling Station on Impalila Island, Nyambe Musiyalela, said his team managed to set up on time and was ready to receive voters as soon as polls opened this morning.

Namonyi is one of two polling stations on the island, the other being Impalila Combined School.

Musiyalela said they expect a moderate turnout but not as high as the other station due to the distance some residents must travel.

The team is operating from a tent, with additional voter waiting space provided under a nearby tree.

Musiyalela added that provision was made for alternative shelter in the event of rainfall.

Meanwhile, at Impalila Combined School, presiding officer Venken Batoboha expressed excitement and optimism, noting that they expect voter numbers to increase as the day progresses.

The station opened at exactly 07h00, and by that time, seven voters had already cast their ballots.

Batoboha acknowledged that the terrain and infrastructure pose challenges for wheelchair users and others requiring mobility assistance but says arrangements are in place to ensure that all eligible voters are assisted to cast their ballots.
