One hundred and one beneficiaries received allotment letters for ten hectares of land on Farm Tsintsabis and Urwald in the Guinas Constituency of the Oshikoto Region.

The beneficiaries have been urged to develop and use the land productively. 

Speaking at the event, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform Minister Inge Zaamwani said the farms were first acquired for food production and income-generating activities.

The aim was also to improve the socio-economic conditions and livelihoods of the beneficiaries through productive use of agricultural land. 

"These farms were acquired in 1992 by the government of the Republic of Namibia to ensure that our people, who found themselves here, have access to land for food production and other income-generating activities. The broader objective was to ensure improvement in the socioeconomic conditions of our people."

Deputy Minister of the Office of the Vice President, Moses ||Khumub, emphasised the significance of government recognition regarding access to land for marginalised communities. He stated, "This clearly underlines how we, as a government, believe that when guided in the right way, access to land will translate into the economic empowerment of our marginalised communities. This represents a significant milestone."

Beneficiary Immanuel Gharub expressed his gratitude for the land, stating, "The long wait is finally over. I am 77 years old and have waited for more than thirty years to receive this. I plan to plant additional crops alongside the lemons I have already established, but I will need water tanks to make that a reality."

Another beneficiary, Alina Aibes, also expressed her gratitude, stating, "This is a wonderful feeling; we are thankful to the government. I will be producing more fruits and vegetables. You can see all this produce; we have good soil, and I am determined to cultivate even more." 

Thirty-eight beneficiaries are from Farm Tsintsabis, and 63 reside at Farm Urwald.
