The Minister of International Relations and Trade, Selma Ashipala-Musavyi, has urged Namibia to identify products and sectors where it holds a competitive advantage for export growth as the country explores the opportunities within the African Continental Free Trade Area framework.
Namibia has strategically positioned itself to take advantage of the African Continental Free Trade Area to benefit the business community, drive industrialisation and diversify markets.
Ashipala-Musavyi said the manufacturing sector, particularly processed foods and beverages, offers significant opportunities for export and further economic diversification.
She also highlighted the growth-at-home strategy, which focuses on industrialisation, developing value chains from local raw materials, expanding production capacity and improving market access.
Her speech was delivered on her behalf during the final regional engagement in |Khomas to raise awareness and ensure effective implementation of the AfCFTA.
Ashipala-Musavyi further stressed the importance of implementing programmes that support aspiring youth and women entrepreneurs by offering opportunities such as access to financing, training, and mentorship for empowerment, highlighting the AfCFTA's Women and Youth Initiative.
The minister called for transparent procedures to ensure efficient and effective trade facilitation and to encourage cross-border trade.
Ashipla-Musavyi noted that her ministry will explore opportunities to expand knowledge among business communities.
This will be done through training programmes for businesses and entrepreneurs on trade relations, export procedures, and market access, equipping them with the skills needed to thrive within the AfCFTA environment.
