The Governor of ||Kharas region, Dawid Gertze, has set goals for 2026 that focus on initiatives aimed at enhancing the lives of the inhabitants.

With the creation of the ||Kharas Youth Desk in the Office of the Governor, Gertze explained that the first conference is scheduled before the end of February to map out the way forward for the youth.

“There is money available primarily for youth usage and implementation, but they need to come out with a proper plan. These plans and projects must be sustainable and carry the current generation to the next generation. It must generate additional income and yield some profits for the year to come.”

Gertze also emphasises self-employment and rural youth development.

"This is where the traditional leaders come in - through availing land where we can also employ our rural youth that does not have the opportunity to come to town and employ them through agricultural projects. My approach to youth employment and development is that unity is fundamental. Unity will drive the agenda of development because as long as we are as divided as we are currently, there is no way we will drive a sustainable agenda in our communities. So, there is a need for us to unite.”

Aussenkher settlement, which experienced recurring fires, is among the priorities.

“We have experienced quite destructive events down there with the fires, and Aussenkher will be a priority. We need to resolve that challenge. Year in and year out, we are dealing with the same problem. The approach this year needs to be different from what it was before so that we can address that scotch of pain our people are going through,” he highlighted.

Gertze urged all stakeholders, such as traditional leaders, regional councillors, and the business community, to sit around the table to find solutions that bring lasting change to communities across the region.
