The Chief Regional Officer of the Zambezi Regional Council, Regina Ndopu, has officially been suspended.

The decision to suspend Ndopu was taken by the previous council in September; however, no suspension letter was issued at the time, as not all council members had deliberated on the matter.

The Chairperson of the Management Committee, Bernard Sisamu, told the media that the newly constituted council has now implemented the decision taken by its predecessor.

Ndopu was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Commission in connection with alleged irregularities relating to the Zambezi Waterfront tender.

“The suspension is a precautionary administrative measure to allow for due process and the completion of internal procedures without interference,” Sisamu said.

Ndopu’s five-year term ends on 28 February, and the Director of Internal Services, Sylvester Simwanza, will act as Chief Regional Officer.
