Swakopmund Mayor Suamma Kautondokwa has described the festive season as busy but successful, with the town once again proving to be a safe and welcoming tourist destination.

The tourism activities, Kautondokwa said, remained strong, with high accommodation occupancy and increased business for local traders and adventure tourism operations, without disruption.

She said that despite peak season pressure, essential services remained stable. 

Waste collection, she said, was intensified, public spaces stayed clean, and water and sanitation services operated without disruption.

She added that public safety was prioritised through increased law enforcement visibility, traffic management and operations, resulting in a calm and family-friendly festive environment.

"Strong collaboration with NamPol, traffic authorities and emergency services was key. Joint operations ensured quick response and effective coordination. This partnership played a major role in the season's success.  We identified the need for improved traffic solutions and stronger infrastructure resilience. Earlier stakeholder engagement will strengthen future peak-season planning. These lessons will guide our preparations going forward."

Kautondokwa thanked the residents for their cooperation and the visitors for choosing Swakopmund, saying the town's safety, cleanliness, and appeal remain a shared responsibility.
