The ||Kharas Education Directorate Director Nicolaas Eiman said the Directorate's approach for the current academic year will be evidence-based, collaborative, and learner-centered to improve both access to quality education and learner achievement.

The 2025 Namibia Senior Secondary Certificate Ordinary Level (NSSCO) and Advanced Subsidiary (NSSCAS) class of ||Kharas Region produced mixed examination results.

Eiman said while there are pockets of encouraging performance in some subjects, the results also point to systemic gaps that required focused attention.

The Grade 10 learners writing the NSSCO exams pushed the Region up from 11th to 8th place nationally, while the Grade 11 learners writing the NSSCAS, lifted the region from 14th place to 12th place.

“The strengths reflected in the results include committed leadership in certain schools, dedicated teachers, and learner resilience, especially in challenging rural and remote contexts. However, the gaps highlight long-standing issues such as uneven subject performance, weak foundations in key learning areas, inconsistent curriculum coverage, and varying levels of instructional quality.”

Eiman said his focus has been primarily on familiarisation, stabilisation, diagnostic assessment, and strengthening support systems, rather than immediate large-scale reforms.

“It is important to note that these results largely reflect conditions and interventions that were in place before I assumed office and therefore provide a useful baseline for understanding the education system I inherited. They help us to identify where support was effective and where stronger, more coordinated interventions are required.”

Eiman highlighted planned interventions aimed at improving these results, including re-energising school leadership and accountability structures through engagements with principals and inspectors.

Emphasis will also be placed on teacher professionalism, lesson preparation, and curriculum coverage as non-negotiables.
