Otjozondjupa Education Directorate to ensure that all children secure space in schools

Otjozondjupa Acting Education Director Uerivangera Tjivikua says they will exhaust all possible avenues to ensure that all children secure space in schools.

Rural urban migration takes place at a fast pace in the Otjozondjupa Region, especially in Okahandja, Otjiwarongo, and Grootfontein.

This, in turn, results in more and more learners seeking placement in schools every year.

About 656 Grade 1 learners and 12,000 Grade 8 learners have not yet secured places in the three towns.

Kavango East Education Directorate awards tenders for construction of classrooms

The Kavango East Education Directorate has awarded tenders worth more than N$18 million for the construction of classrooms.

Of late the Rundu Circuit has been experiencing a shortage of classrooms leading to overcrowding with some learners being taught in tents. 

A three-classroom block will now be constructed at the Rundu Project School, where learners are currently being taught in tents while a four-classroom block will be built at Siguruguru Primary School.

Schools re-open in Ohangwena Region

About 29 schools that were closed due to flooding have been re-opened in Ohangwena Region. 

This followed the subsiding of flood waters.
The floods affected 36 schools in the region, disturbing learning for more than 17 000 learners.

Among 30 schools that closed, 29 have now been re-opened, with exception of Shingunguma Primary School. 

Shingunguma Primary School is in Ongenga Constituency, in Eengava Village. 

The school closed on 17 January, affecting about 377 learners and 11 teachers.

Mushrooming of unregistered primary schools at Rundu worrisome for Education Directorate

The mushrooming of unregistered primary schools at Rundu has become worrisome for the Kavango East Directorate of Education, Arts and Culture.

At least three schools with a combined total of more than five-hundred learners are said to be operating illegally and without the approval of the Ministry.

Our news team visited the Tuhingireni Project School started by 20 volunteer teachers who are unemployed.

Secretary to the project Wezzy Mafwila says the idea of starting a school was welcomed by parents whose children walked long distances to schools.

Education directorate, senior political leaders visit Okondjatu Combined School

Senior political leaders and staff of the education directorate undertook a visit to the Okondjatu Combined School in Okakarara Constituency. 

This follows the circulation of images and videos depicting the deplorable condition at the school. 

Otjozondjupa Regional Governor James Uerikua wants immediate action in having the old infrastructure renovated along with other demands.

Uerikua says renovations will be undertaken, and ablution facilities fixed, as soon as a budget is availed. 

He noted that the school blocks were damaged by lightning in 2014.
