Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare and Minister of Education Sanet Steenkamp visited Hochland High School in the capital to encourage and inspire learners at the start of the academic year.

Dr Ngurare said he previously served as a board member there, adding that this experience has given him a deeper understanding of the challenges young people face in their educational journeys.

"I used to be chairperson of the school board of this Hochland High. So I wanted to just come and say hello, especially to encourage young people, in this case the learners, to study hard. Just like when we had our kids here, they remain our kids, and we want to encourage them to be disciplined towards their parents and their teachers and to take the opportunity that is now."

Ngurare mentioned that the learners at the school asked for a school hall, which the ministry will facilitate.

" we have said the school hall which they wanted, they will now get it. So the ministry will facilitate that. And they promise us that their performance is going to be better than last year. So our hearts are with the learners here in Hochland High as well as all over the media. And that is what the president also wants to see; let us all work hard. So that's why we came here."

He urged learners to remain focused and resilient despite daily struggles.

During the visit, the learners entertained the delegation with their cultural performances.

Hochland High School's Grade 12 overall percent pass rate for 2025 was 71%.
