A group of disgruntled |Hai-|Khaua clan members has called for the nullification of the recent appointment of traditional councillor Michael Haman as the clan's deputy Gaob.
The group marched to the |Hai-|Khaua Traditional Authority office to petition over what they termed a constitutionally flawed appointment.
In a petition addressed to the Traditional Authority Council Chairperson, Immanuel |Gaseb, the group maintained the appointment contravened the clan's customary law.
They explained that retired Gaob Johannes Isaack endorsed the appointment after his powers had lapsed upon reaching the age of 80 in April last year.
Group spokesperson Michael Frederick said, "The community was kept in the dark about the development of the succession plan of the Gaob and the endorsement of the deputy Gaob. We trust in your wisdom, leadership, and commitment to the welfare of our people, and we humbly request your urgent intervention to address this matter."
The protestors further demanded the traditional authority's full financial report for the last twelve months.
There was, however, no one to receive the petition, and the group said it would forward it to the office of Gaob |Gaseb.
Haman declined to comment.
