President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah says the death of former Cabinet Minister Erkkie Nghimtina has robbed the nation of a committed freedom fighter and dedicated national leader.
 
Nghimtina died on Sunday at the age of 78.
 
 
In a statement, President Nandi-Ndaitwah extended condolences to the bereaved family.
 
A veteran of the liberation struggle, Nghimtina served as a Member of Parliament from 1995 to 2020.
 
President Nandi-Ndaitwah says the late Nghimtina served the nation with distinction and made a meaningful contribution to national development, having held various government portfolios.
 
These included Works and Transport, Mines and Energy, Labour and Industrial Relations, as well as Defence, before retiring from public office in 2020.
