The Minister of Information and Communication Technology has urged Public Relations Officers (PROs) from government Offices, Ministries, and Agencies (OMAs) to maintain strong working relationships with the media and to be proactive in providing information.

Emma Theofelus made these remarks during an engagement with the officials.

“Service delivery might be affected due to natural disasters or this calculation in implementation, it happens. Human beings are running government, so errors will exist. So we do encourage our PROs to not shy away from when things don't go well and they need to communicate that things are not going well. I am the government spokesperson. The Minister of Information is a government spokesperson. In time of crisis, in time of happiness, in time of very sad situations, I still had to communicate and that is really what we try to encourage. So that relationship is very important to us. Of course, we do this with continuous training of public relations officers. We convene, we unpack scenarios, and the challenges faced in how they communicate, the advent of social media and artificial intelligence, all of those issues we discuss.”
