Swapo Party MP Solomon April has questioned why the Ministry of Works and Transport issued "purchase or vacate" letters to former government employees living in government houses.
Works and Transport Minister Veikko Nekundi explained the move aligns with the alienation scheme, which allows civil servants to buy state properties.
"The alienation scheme is open until the end of June," Nekundi said. "They either take the offer and buy these properties, then they can stay. But you cannot remain there without buying."
He added that after June, unclaimed properties will first be offered to other civil servants. If no one buys, they will go to the open market.
