Parliament is set to welcome senior lawmakers from across the continent next week when the country will host the 90th Executive Committee meeting of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Africa Region at Swakopmund.

Secretary to the National Council, Advocate Tousy Namiseb, explained that "the gesture highlights Namibia's continued commitment to democratic governance, parliamentary cooperation and active participation in Commonwealth activities. The CPA Africa Region is one of the largest and most dynamic regions of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, bringing together national and sub-national legislatures from across the African continent. The association promotes parliamentary democracy, good governance, human rights, and the strengthening of parliamentary institutions."

About 70 delegates are expected, including representatives from Eswatini, Ghana, Kenya and other African countries.

"During the Swakopmund meeting, the EXCO will consider strategic decisions on CPA Africa programmes, governance matters and measures to further strengthen cooperation among African parliaments."

While the meeting itself is closed to the public, officials say its outcomes will shape regional parliamentary priorities and strengthen democratic institutions.
