The National Housing Enterprise (NHE) has released its 2024/2025 Annual Report at its annual general meeting.

The Minister of Urban and Rural Development James Sankwasa said the report is a positive step towards transparency and accountability, particularly at a time when many institutions fail to submit audited financial reports.

Sankwasa further stated that tax payers have the right to know what happens with their money.

He further highlighted that while the report may not present ideal financial results, its availability allows the public to assess how government resources are being utilized.

"It's their right to know and the report is to that effect should be made available for them to appreciate who's best using  the money, who is wasting and misusing the money."

However, Sankwasa described the financial year under review brought challenges not only with NHE but to the Ministry as well.

"Challenges that come in two phases. First challenges for obtaining the required funds, it's a challenge itself and then comes the second of how to use what has been received."

NHE Board chairperson Hastings Tjipueja described the AGM as a meaningful reflection of the institution's commitment to openness and shared responsibility.

"We have reviewed our performance, acknowledged our challenges and reaffirmed our mandate to provide affordable and sustainable housing solutions to the people we serve."

Tjipueja has highlighted the importance of collaboration, stating that housing delivery requires a collective national effort.

"When we come around the table there is no pre-session, we meet around in the meeting  and we discuss something and we move away again and that's the value  that I always see in that transparency."
