The National Assembly has adopted the nomination and reappointment of four members to serve on the Public Service Commission (PSC) for a five-year term.
The approved nominees are Ambassador Patrick Nandago, who will serve as Chairperson; Gerson Kamatuka, reappointed as Commissioner; Ambassador Linda Scott; and Laudina Shapwa, who will serve as Commissioners.
The debate resumed after the matter was previously left unresolved due to a lack of quorum last week. Some members of Parliament raised procedural objections, saying not all members had been given an opportunity to speak before the vote.
Deputy Speaker Phillipus Katamelo ruled that the Prime Minister, as mover of the motion, could exercise his right of reply.
Responding to the debate, Dr. Elijah Ngurare acknowledged concerns raised by members, including issues related to age, youth representation, qualifications, experience and diversity. He said the government would improve consultation with members across the house in the future, but he maintained that the nominees were selected based on experience, qualifications, and national representation.
The motion was declared adopted, with 48 members supporting it, clearing the way for the commissioners to take up their posts.
