The Ministry of Health and Social Services (MoHSS) has announced the successful containment of Mpox and Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic Fever (CCHF) outbreaks in the Erongo and Omaheke regions.

The Mpox outbreak was declared on 19 October 2025 in Swakopmund following the first laboratory-confirmed case on 18 October 2025. Namibia recorded three confirmed cases, all of whom have made a full recovery and were discharged from isolation on 12 November 2025.

The CCHF outbreak was declared on November 28, 2025, in the Omaheke Region after the laboratory confirmed a case on November 21, 2025. CCHF is a viral haemorrhagic fever primarily transmitted via tick bites or contact with the bodily fluids of infected persons or livestock. The confirmed patient died from the disease and was buried by trained personnel adhering to safety protocols.

The ministry says success in containing both outbreaks was achieved through a swift, multi-faceted public health response that included contact tracing, surveillance, laboratory testing, and community education.
