The outgoing Director General of the NBC, Stanley Similo, says he is leaving the corporation with a sense of fulfilment after playing his part.
Similo served as Director General of the NBC for more than ten years.
He made the remarks during a meeting with the Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, ahead of her engagement with staff.

“I can assure the Minister that I am leaving with a very happy heart because I believe I have done my part. With the transition unfolding the way it is, and the organisation able to manage it, I can only wish those moving forward the very best. The positive aspect, as you have highlighted, is that it is one of our own who will be taking the organisation forward. Considering how technology has evolved, we are adapting and are not far behind. I believe that, on the continent, we are regarded as one of the best in terms of where we stand, because we have always taken pride in our work.”
The Minister noted that she foresees a smooth transition, given the incoming Director General’s experience within the corporation.
“Transition periods can either be easy or difficult, depending on the circumstances. However, I believe this will be one of the smoothest transitions, considering that the incoming Director General is someone who is already well known within the NBC. More importantly, with the 8th Administration and the President leading a government with clear goals, it is crucial for all public enterprises—as extensions of government—to fully understand their mandate. As the Ministry of ICT, and by extension all public enterprises, we must align with these goals. The national broadcaster is a very important institution for any government and for any democracy.”
