The Finance Ministry has tabled a N$12.8 billion operational budget for the 2026-2027 financial year.

Finance Minister Ericah Shafudah, in tabling her ministry's budget, stated that it aims at sustaining core government functions and service delivery.

From the total budget, an additional N$30 million has been allocated for development expenditure, while statutory payments are projected at N$16.2 billion.

Presenting the budget in Parliament, Shafudah outlined nine strategic programmes aligned with national development priorities, such as the National Development Plan 6 (NDP6).

"Revenue management. Here is where I have to inform this house that an allocation of N$68.7 million has been allocated for this programme. And out of this, that N$8.7 million is earmarked for present expenditure, including salaries and end-of-service benefits for former inland revenue and customs and extra stuff that is currently secondary to Namra and is expected to come back to the ministry. It's from the first of April 2026. A further N$50 million, like I have indicated, is allocated for the implementation of the capital projects, mainly once the border posts are the transcribed border posts, and this is really to improve trade facilitation and border efficiency."

Meanwhile, N$389.2 million has been allocated to government expenditure management, including N$140 million for contingency funding and contributions to institutions such as the African Development Bank.

The Central Medical Aid programme receives N$3.2 billion, while N$7.4 billion – the largest share of the budget – has been set aside for social protection services, including grants for vulnerable citizens.

Shafudah said the budget reflects the government's commitment to fiscal consolidation, improved public financial management, and sustainable socio-economic development.

"This allocation will enable the ministry to reinforce physical discipline, enhance efficiency and transparency of public financial systems, support macroeconomic stability, and ensure the effective delivery of social protection interventions."
