Various concerns were raised by MPs regarding the budget allocation towards the Ministry of Health and Social Services.

MPs gave their suggestions on where they expect to see improvement in the sector and how it could be better capacitated to cater to all citizens nationwide.

Swapo Party MP Martha Itope says, "On malaria prevention, indoor residual spraying must be done on time. Delay costs lives. The ministry must ensure spraying happens before the rainy season, especially in the north."

IPC MP Lilani Brinkman adds, "I cannot stand here confidently and say that we do not experience problems when it comes to medicines. Our patients are still going to private pharmacies to get themselves essential medication."

"If we are serious about public health, every clinic must open each door 24 hours in order to save lives," stressed BCP MP Festus Thomas.

Michael Mulunga is an IPC MP in the National Assembly.

"You said that the central medical store will be housed at Ramatex. Yet we have a budget of N$86 million. Of that, N$36 million is going to come from the Global Fund. Now, Global Fund, being an entity that has committed this budget, I don't think it is proper that we divert donor funding that has been given to us as a country with specific conditions of constructing a central medical store to go and rent a building."

"I would like to propose that the Minister of Health and Social Services, together with the MBA Fund, establish a trauma centre at all stages of hospital," contributed Swapo Party MP, Fenni Nanyeni.

Ephraim Nekongo, a Swapo Party MP, also participated in the debate, saying, 'When that mental health strike happens, when you go to those facilities, we really need to pay attention.' Currently we have only one in Windhoek or Oshakati, but they are also not doing well. I was looking forward to seeing if we can think about how we really capacitate the mental health facilities."

MEIYSAC minister Dr Sanet Steenkamp reiterated, "In our schools, in our multi-purpose youth centres, we would need health personnel; we need more nurses, and we need more counsellors. I am hoping that we will be able to work on this together."
