The Chancellor of the University of Namibia, Nangolo Mbumba, has called on the graduates from the southern campus to use their skills to advance development.

Mbumba made the plea at the graduation ceremony at Keetmanshoop.

The 178 graduates received qualifications in the Agriculture, Engineering and Natural Sciences; Commerce, Management and Law; Education and Human Sciences; Health Sciences and Veterinary Medicine faculties.

"You must see yourself as a catalyst who will help propel the developmental agenda of your region, country, continent and the world. As you prepare for the proud moment, you must remain cognisant that the knowledge and practical skills you have obtained at Unam are not just keys to a brighter, healthier and more prosperous future for the wider society."

Mbumba said the UNAM Southern Campus has an important role in preparing skilled graduates for the emerging sectors, especially the oil and gas sector.

"Therefore, it is expected that southern campuses find their relevance and meaning in ensuring that our country achieves its national development agenda, NDP 6 vision 2030, by producing a high-skilled workforce to meet the demands of emerging industries."
