The Minister of Works and Transport, Veikko Nekundi, presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for a new Natis Centre in Wanaheda, Windhoek, today.

The centre will provide facilities for testing both small and heavy vehicles, as well as learner and driver licence testing. It will also include a permit office.

In his keynote address, Minister Nekundi spoke about his experience during a surprise visit to Natis's facility in the Northern Industrial Area, Windhoek, shortly after his appointment last April. He emphasised the importance of service delivery in Natis, which is why his ministry deemed it necessary to construct a new center in Wanaheda to bring services closer to residents in the surrounding areas.

The Minister also promised that another centre will be opened in the Otjomuise area in the near future.

August 26 Construction company has been given the responsibility to build the new centre.

A pilot mobile, computerised learner's testing system called Natis on Wheels was also introduced at the event.
